Furnish win Green Business Award

Congratulations to our partners Staying First who have been named ‘Green Business of the Year’ for its furniture and appliance re-use service, Furnish.

Furnish collects and delivers unwanted furniture throughout West London. It saves around 1,379 tonnes of domestic and commercial furniture from landfill every year.

The organisation scooped the prestigious accolade at the West London Business Awards. The green business award was sponsored by warehouse developers, SEGRO.

Furnish manager, Mark Hardy, said:

“We are delighted and proud to see our commitment to the environment recognised with this award. We’re green in what we do and the way we do it. We make London greener by collecting unwanted furniture and appliances and making it available to enthusiastic re-users and those people who really need it.”

Furnish runs a shop, Furnish@West12 in one of London’s busiest shopping centres in Shepherds Bush and a supersized commercial warehouse in Greenford.

The first and only business awards for west London was organised by the regional chamber of commerce. It showcases the innovation and entrepreneurial character within west London’s remarkable business community.

The awards were judged by a panel of leading businesses and business leaders. The judges said:

“Staying First has created an innovative approach to the business with excellent examples in the entry to back it up, also showing their clear aims and impressive growth.”

Furnish started life as an independent charity run by one man from a disused warehouse. It has grown to become a vibrant and leading furniture and appliance re-use organisation which makes an important difference to communities in and around west London. It has a turnover of £2.2 million.
It works with other organisations and charities as part of the London Re-Use Network, to deliver an easy-to-access and consistent re-use service for residents and businesses in London.
