Groundwork London helps people and organisations make changes to create self sustaining neighbourhoods with excellent well designed green open spaces. To build skills and job prospects. And to live and work in a greener way and reduce landfill.
The Re:work Workshop is just one of their projects. Managed by Groundwork London, in partnership with London Re-use and the Western Riverside Waste Authority the workshop repairs and refurbishes electrical goods and furniture. This includes; cookers, washing machines and fridges, which would otherwise be disposed of.
The workshop acts as a training base for local people looking to gain the skills and experiance necessary to get back into work. To date the workshop has created nine jobs, several volunteering positions and offers accredited training in electrical engineering.
The appliances and furniture repaired at the workshop are distributed through LRN partner charities including, Home Again, Furnish, WWT, Hounslow Furniture Recycling Project, Emmaus and Bright Sparks with many other charities coming on board as the project grows.
